The Ifop survey carried out in September 2025 for the Socialist Party highlights a climate of opinion overwhelmingly in favor of tax and social justice measures, with the proposal for exceptional taxation of the ultra-rich topping the list. The creation of a 2% tax on wealth in excess of 100 million euros – referred to in the public debate as the Zucman tax – garnered 86% of favorable opinions, including 58% « completely favorable ». It is by far one of the measures that elicits the widest consensus, reflecting expectations in terms of a rebalancing of the distribution of financial efforts. This support is part of a broader framework: 85% of French people say they are in favor of placing more of the budgetary burden on wealthy individuals and large corporations, and 79% approve of reducing the public subsidies they receive. In the same vein, 86% are in favor of limiting government recourse to private consulting firms. This desire for a better balance is also reflected in other strong expectations: 79% support an increase in take-home pay for employees earning up to €2,000 via a cut in the generalized social contribution tax, and 74% approve of the idea of spreading out over time the budgetary effort required of the French in order to limit its economic impact.
