“Home security should never be a luxury, but a matter of course accessible to all”

Today, home security remains a major preoccupation for many French people, especially as the summer vacations approach, a time when burglaries are commonplace. To gain a better understanding of behaviors and expectations in terms of home protection, Reolink called on Omnibus by Ifop to answer a key question: how do the French secure their homes?

Frédéric Gulesserian, Country Sales Director France at Reolink, looks back at the main findings of this study and the answers provided by the brand to support households in their growing need for security.

Question 1: Could you explain REOLINK’s role and the context in which this study on home security was carried out?

At Reolink, our mission is to make home security technology reliable and accessible to all. As a key player in the connected security camera market, we felt it was important to gain a better understanding of people’s current attitudes, concerns and behaviors when it comes to home security, particularly during the summer, a period known to be prone to burglary. This study was carried out to gather information on the perceptions and expectations of French homeowners and tenants. By listening to their concerns, we can better adapt our solutions, raise public awareness and develop tools that truly meet everyday needs.

Question 2: The survey reveals that 1 in 3 French people is worried about a burglary during the summer months, and that the connected camera remains one of the most desired security devices, although still not very widespread (only 25% equipped). What conclusions can you draw from these results about the current obstacles to French home security?

These data show a clear gap between concern and action. Although a significant proportion of the population is concerned about burglaries, many have not yet adopted connected security solutions. We have identified two main obstacles: firstly, a lack of knowledge or understanding of the simplicity and effectiveness of modern connected cameras. On the other hand, cost is sometimes perceived as an obstacle, whereas there are many affordable, easy-to-use solutions available today. Solutions that Reolink offers precisely to remove these obstacles.”

Bridging this gap between concern and adoption is at the heart of our education and product development efforts.

Question 3: How do these results influence your future recommendations or campaigns on home security awareness? Which communication levers seem the most promising for democratizing the use of connected devices?

The study clearly highlights an opportunity and a responsibility to better inform and reassure the public. In the future, we’re going to focus on democratizing connected security through accessible content: tutorials, real-life testimonials, comparisons demonstrating just how simple and cost-effective it is to secure your home. Establishing a relationship of trust will be essential, notably through partnerships with the media, influencers, connected home and tech players, as well as awareness-raising campaigns on social networks. We also intend to emphasize the sense of security that these solutions provide, above and beyond their technical features. Ultimately, the most effective lever is to show how these solutions integrate naturally into everyday life, and how they enable everyone to feel safe and in control of their environment.
