In the spring of 2022, Sociovision carried out a study on behalf of France Thalasso, the French thalassotherapy association, on the relationship between the French and the sea. Marie Perez Siscar, President of France Thalasso and of the Coté Thalasso complex in Banyuls-sur-Mer, Occitanie, talks about this initiative.
Why did you decide to launch a study on the pleasures and benefits of the sea?
The benefits of thalassotherapy are generally known, and in any case recognized, particularly by a public of regulars. Since our aim is to win over new customers, we felt it essential to find out what our contemporaries want, and how they relate to the sea… Hence this survey.
What were the most striking results of the survey?
A pleasant surprise: the vast majority of French people would gladly go to the sea rather than to the mountains, the countryside or the city, if they were offered a weekend away!
Unfortunately, there’s still a striking 25% of French people surveyed who don’t know what thalassotherapy really is, even though the vast majority of them claim to know all about it!
How do the results of this study help you in your business?
These studies enable us to evolve and modify our sales practices by adapting to the aspirations of our customers (the new potential customers). For example, by changing the names of our treatment cards. In 2022, customers want to be happy, and the recipe for happiness is more pleasure, more well-being and more escape. It’s up to us, as thalassotherapy professionals, to satisfy them in order to retain our long-standing clientele and attract new enthusiasts.
