Ifop for LCI questioned the French on the announcements made by François Bayrou on July 15.

A majority of French people (57%) consider the savings plan announced by François Bayrou on July 15 to be « necessary, given our country’s debt and financial situation ». While the French consider it necessary to make savings, less than half (43%) feel that the plan is « courageous », and less than a third that it is « realistic » (31%), and that it « fairly distributes the efforts required of the French and companies » (28%). Finally, a quarter of French people consider it « fair » (26%).

Among the proposed measures, only « the creation of a solidarity contribution for the highest incomes » is supported by a consensus (74%). The other measures envisaged are supported by only a minority of French people: « not replacing one in three civil servants retiring » (47%), « introducing a blank year in 2026 » (41%), « abolishing the 10% deduction for pensioners receiving large pensions » (38%). Finally, the abolition of the two public holidays of Easter Monday and May 8th received less than a quarter of favorable opinions (23%), with only Renaissance sympathizers approving the measure in the majority (57%).
