A very positive urban perspective
The countryside has a positive place in the collective imagination of urban dwellers. For three-quarters of them, the countryside is a pla less stress (90%), and a greater sense of security (81%).
Moreover, the personal relationship with the countryside is “powerful” for some: nearly 7 out of 10 city dwellers (68%) visit it at least several times a year, and half feel they cannot live without regular contact with it (52%).
A growing desire to move there, despite the obstacles
The majority of city dwellers are considering moving to the countryside in the next few years. More than one in two (53%) say they would like to move there permanently, and nearly half of working people (49%) are considering a hybrid lifestyle between city and countryside thanks to teleworking. The motivations are clear: above all, the search for peace and quiet (66%) and proximity to nature/animals (42%).
However, this aspiration could be hampered by practical obstacles such as medical deserts (51%), particularly for those aged 50 and over, the need for mobility (40%) and isolation (33%). Other factors could also constrain this aspiration: the fact that 78% of urban dwellers consider cultural and leisure offerings to be insufficient or limited, the need to own a car (93%), and the lack of local shops (48%).
